Dakar and Goree Island Private Trip
If you want to discover all the top sights around the city of Dakar, then we have the perfect trip for you. Besides exploring the fascinating capital of Senegal, we will also take a fun boat trip to the beautiful island of Goree.
After collecting you at the scheduled time from your hotel in Dakar, we'll head to the city's port, where a ferry will be waiting to take you to the captivating island of Goree. There, you learn about one of the most terrifying chapters in the history of Senegal and the world.
After a brief 20-minute journey, we'll disembark and visit the House of Slaves and the Historical Museum of Senegal. Due to its location on the West African coast, the island held a prominent role in the Atlantic slave trade for three hundred years. You'll learn about this dark historical period and how Goree is now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Next, we'll walk through the colorful narrow streets of Gorea, admiring the beautiful colonial houses. We'll make a stop so you can have lunch in your own free time before we jump back on the ferry and return to Dakar.
When we return to the capital, we'll take a guided tour through the historic city center. You'll discover emblematic locations such as Independence Square, the Presidential Palace, the markets of Kermel and Sandaga, and the city's cathedral. We'll also visit the Medina neighbourhood, where we'll admire the majestic architecture of the Grand Mosque of Dakar and the Tilene market, famous for Shamans selling charms and amulets.
The tour of Dakar ends back at your hotel about 8 to 9 hours after the start of the day trip.
