Goree Island Private Trip
A trip to Goree Island is an essential experience for visitors to Dakar. You will discover what was an important center for the Atlantic slave trade and learn all about this terrifying chapter of history.
We will collect you from your hotel at around 9 a.m. and then drive you in an air-conditioned vehicle to the port of Dakar. There, a ferry will be waiting to take you to the island of Goree.
After an approximately 20-minute journey, we will arrive on the small island off the coast of Senegal's Cape Verde Peninsula. Due to its prominent role in Africa's slave trade over three centuries, Goree was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978.
To learn more about this dark period in history, we will head into the House of Slaves, a museum in memory of the millions of people who were held captive and sold here. The practice ended in 1848 when France abolished slavery.
Later, we will walk through the picturesque, narrow streets where you will see the elegant colonial houses adorned with colourful Bougainvillea flowers. You will also discover the pretty beach and how locals live today.
